Reading Books on CybookWe here at gadgetcool love nature, that's why we want to show some love to the Cybook Gen3.

Basically, this gadget allows you to read (e-)books on some kind of a PDA. This way, you do not need to buy real books, which means no paper, no cut down trees, better for nature, ... you get the point.

Books are big, heavy, they usually don't fit your pocket and are uncomfortable to carry. Thanks to modern technologies, we have plenty of devices to read from.

The Cybook Gen3 is a specifically designed electronic reader, the new display technology makes reading from a display as comfortable as reading a normal book.

By using E-Ink, which requires no backlight to read, we are able to read from our gadget even when sitting in the sun. It almost feels like it's written on real paper.

With a screen resolution of 800x600 it fits an entire page on the screen.
The device has a 2.5 stereo mini jack for music listening (device can play mp3 files), 64MB of internal memory, SD slot and USB port.

With a 2GB memory card, you can carry an entire library in your pocket. The battery is really impressive, it lasts for up to 8000 pages.

Price for the Cybook gadget is $350.

non-lethal self-defense gizmoNowadays, it isn't exactly safe anymore to walk outside at night, especially in dangerous neighborhoods.

You never know what might happen, some crazy guy attacking you, a stalker getting to close, ... For those people who need to defend themselves against psychos, here are a couple of options:

  • Run away screaming

  • Use martial arts

  • Aim the Avurt IM-5 launcher

This flashlight-sized device is a non-lethal self-defense gizmo, which has a great range compared to other defense gadgets like tasers, pepper spray, ...

This gadget features a laser sighted launcher that shoots pellets filled with PAVA power. It is capable of burning the eyes, nose and throat of your target which can be 40 feet away from you.

This Avurt IM-5 launcher is designed by Security With Advanced Technology, it utilizes the same pepper substance found in aerosol based weapons.

You can fold the gadget away when not in use, to make sure it doesn't go off by accident. Choose between black, blue, red or pink.

Purchase includes carrying case, 10 practice rounds and DVD tutorial.

Inflight recharge with USB gadgetRight in the middle of watching a movie on your laptop and your battery dies? Listening to a song on your iPod and suddenly no more sound?

This gadget is built for people using their laptop or iPod on a (long) flight. Sure you could do some other stuff on a flight, but most people like to watch a movie or listen to some music while they wait for the plane to land.

If your battery dies during a flight, there's no place to recharge it. You could try to use solar power to recharge them, but we doubt that's going to work.

This Power Executive Bundle plugs into the passenger seat audio jack to provide regulated power to the attached USB plug. Fight the ongoing battle of airline boredom, recharge your batteries with through an audio jack.

This Executive model comes with a Plug-in tip for the iPod, that also supports the Nano, Mini, 4G (click wheel), Video iPod, and even the iPhone.

It also comes with a mini B tip for Blackberries, and Motorola/RAZR cellphones. The power charger also plugs into any conventional USB cable for powering up a laptop battery.

Costs $45.

Erase your StressWell maybe this is not the right time to tell you about this gadget, since most people take some time off in July, August, but we came across a device that claims it can erase your stress.

Most people suffer from stress, you don't get enough sleep, work is hard, days are long and the stress just keeps building up.

This award-winning stress eraser is the solution to your problem, this hand-held biofeedback medical device is designed to ease your mind and body in less than 15 minutes.

Researchers have investigated the physiological manifestations of psychological stress. Stress seems to activate stimulating (sympathetic) nerves which triggers increased heart rate and faster brain activity.

These stress symptoms can be countered by activating your 'pacifying (parasympathetic) nerves'.

Use the stress eraser every night right before you go to sleep. Use it for 15 minutes and your body and mind will be stress free again, ready for another day of hard work (and stress?).

Available for $300 here

Print real objects with a 3D printerNo more printing on paper, time to get that new 3D printer in your house! Broke something and want a quick fix, simply print it out.

Go to the Revel website, download the 3D file for the specific object and start printing.

3D printing aka rapid prototyping has been around for quite some time, but it was mainly used by automobile manufacturers and industrial designers. As technology grows, the machine now is cheap enough to be able to buy it.

Desktop Factory is a new 3D printer for the office. The printer uses plastic powder, drum printing technology and a halogen lamp.

The price for this printer is between $5,000 and $7,000 - so it might be used mainly in offices as the price is still high.

Drobo storage robotDrobo looks very cool, it looks like a web 2.0 design. Drobo is a directly connected USB hard drive array with redundancy.

Their marketing message is very clear: drobo uses a proprietary technology and not conventional RAID.

High points:

  • Redundancy because you can't be too careful with all your data

  • Hot swappable disks guarantee no downtime while you swap the disks

  • Using different sized disks in an array. Letting you do that + keeping data safe with redundancy is a first

Low points

  • No network connection.

  • Price, yes it's probably cheaper than a NAS, but it still costs $699.

USB Shaver to store data and shaveSure there are tons of USB-sticks in various formats, but we bet you haven't seen one of these. Who could've figured out there was room to implement a USB-stick inside a shaver?

My guess is that nobody will actually use this, except for spies smuggling data.

Robot named Figla cleansNo this robot does not recognize emotions, it does not start singing when you ask it, it's designed to clean.

You can let it do its thing (automatic cleaning), or you can control it with a remote control or by PC (WiFi).

With its various parts, it is able to perform several different tasks, including waxing hardwood floors.

The Japanese manufacturer of this robot will most likely not sell this to the public, but rather to companies willing to buy a few hundred of these little clean machines.

Would've been nice if we could get one for our house!
